The Soft-skill Myth
Be Brutally Honest About Your Goals
Are you picking the right program—or just the closest one? Are you chasing a degree because it’s the "next step," or because it’s a tool you actually know how to use?
The world doesn't need more people who are "highly credentialed" but functionally paralyzed. It needs people who can handle the "triaging of bedtime, grocery runs, and that one weird rash" of professional life: the people who can handle the chaos of a 2026 workplace without losing their cool.
Employers are pivoting. In 2026, plenty of hiring managers are less impressed by polished language about "communication" and more impressed by evidence that you can solve problems when the line is out the door, the system is glitching, and two people called out. Messy? Yes. Valuable? Also yes.
They are looking for the grit you’ve built through part-time jobs, side hustles, and the fast-food roles you thought were "just for the paycheck." They want to see that you can show up, stay late when it matters, learn the tools of the trade, and keep moving when things get weird.
