the school of hard knocks…
When I first decided to go back to school to get my education, I was astonished at the cost. As much as I wanted to receive a diploma, I just wasn’t willing to take on a mortgage payment to do it. I knew there had a be a better way.
The process was far from easy. As I struggled to understand the education industry, I found myself wondering how on Earth young adults were expected to understand how education works in relation to gainful employment. After four years and $60k, how could they be sure they’d land a job in their chosen career field that would actually allow them to pay back that $60k in this lifetime? I felt like I was drowning, and the statistics confirmed I wasn’t alone. With $1.5 Trillion Dollars in U.S. student loans and over 44 million borrowers, it was evident this was no small issue.
Without a method, it seems incredible that today’s society expects young adults to have the ability to determine which educational avenues would yield the best return on investment? In today’s society, we basically are giving young adults a $60,000 blank check to spend on anything they like…. The only catch is, they have to repay the money with interest right after they buy. It’s no wonder student loans are defaulting at an astonishing rate.
I was determined not to fall victim to the old world view that in order to be successful I had to take on tens of thousands in student loans and attend an ivy league university in order to be successful.
My light bulb moment…
It finally dawned on me that institutions are in the business of education. Non Profit or Private, they are out to sell you an education. I had to change the way I looked at education. I had to stop drinking the Kool-aid and start checking the facts. I needed to treat it like any other big purchase.
So, I got to work and developed a method for myself. This method consisted of 4 main pillars

I used my own education as a beta test for this method and after earning two business degrees without incurring $1 of debt, I was ready to start helping others do the same.
